EAST Park residential school for children with complex additional support needs has received a commendation following the renewal of their Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society.

It is one of only six organisations out of more than 300 across the UK to receive a commendation.

The Maryhill school underwent a rigorous assessment by the National Autistic Society in order to retain Autism Accreditation.

East Park’s head of education, Helen Dunlop, said: “I am heartened by our retention of the accreditation, and subsequent commendation, which confirms to all the effort and dedication of the staff within East Park to supporting the children and young people.”

The National Autistic Society’s team of reviewers engaged with the young people, staff, parents and carers to gain an understanding of the quality of education at East Park.

The team observed lessons in school, joined pupils in their outings and activities and visited residential houses to observe the effectiveness of cross-organisational support for resident pupils in meeting objectives of the 24 hour curriculum.
