A NURSE is facing charges that he restrained a patient because she wanted a second helping of porridge.

Craig Black is alleged to have snatched the bowl from the female patient and then held her against her will on the floor.

He is then said to have told her: "Get yourself up and leave the dining room."

Mr Black, is facing a disciplinary hearing for misconduct after failing to treat the patient with "dignity and respect."

The incident is alleged to have taken place on October 17 2013 in a unit for patients with mental health problems at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Mr Black was employed as a band five charge nurse with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde at the time.

The hearing papers state that he told the patient she couldn't have the porridge, then "inappropriately" restrained her on the dining room floor at the Langhill Clinic, which provides emergency care and treatment for patients with mental health problems.

He is also said to have failed to carry out any checks on the patient to make sure she hadn't suffered any injuries as a result of being restrained.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said the nurse was no longer employed by the board.

Mr Black is due to appear before the Nursing and Midfwifery Council from November 30 - December 4.
