SINGING star artist Sandi Thom linked up with the Clutha Trust to play a surprise concert for a group of very excited schoolchildren.

The “I wish I was a punk rocker” singer played the exclusive gig to pupils and staff at the Drumpark Primary School for children with special educational needs in Coatbridge, ahead of her evening appearance for the Trust.

Next year a partnership between the Clutha Trust and Drumpark Primary will be launched which will see them work on a new project aimed at teaching children musical skills.

Clutha Trust volunteer Dutch Rukowski said: “The Clutha Trust was a year old on the 28th of this month and to celebrate we asked Sandi who kindly agreed to come along and do a show for the kids at the school.

“It went really well- the kids loved it, the staff loved it and even the kitchen staff came out to see Sandi play.

"It was very successful, Sandi also played on our launch night at the Barrowlands a year ago and we are really over the moon to have her back to play a gig at the Clutha tonight.

“Also this is to celebrate a partnership between the school and the Clutha Trust that will be launched in the New Year.

"It’s a new project and we are really excited to be involved in and will be working with special needs kids to teach them music in a unique way.

“We are really proud to partner Drumpark and we look forward to getting started with them in the New Year.”

After the gig at Drumpark, Aberdeenshire-born Sandi headlined a concert at the Clutha Vaults to mark the 2nd anniversary of the tragedy that killed seven people in 2013.

The Clutha Trust was formed in 2014.
