Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken has revealed that he will try to bring Hamilton youngster Eamonn Brophy back to the club in January.

Brophy scored the second goal in the Sons’ 2-0 win over Alloa on Saturday, but it would be his last act in a Dumbarton jersey – at least for the time-being.

“Eamonn has gone back to Hamilton now, it was an emergency loan so the 90-day period has ended and he’s back at Accies,” Aitken said.

“We can’t do anything again until the transfer window opens up in January, and at that time we’ll speak to Hamilton and see if there’s anything we can do with that one.

“I would love to bring him back, he’s been terrific. He’s only a young kid and I know that Hamilton speak highly of him, and he has become an important player for us.

“We’d like to get him on board again in January.”

Aitken’s men will take on Alloa again tonight in the third round of the Scottish Cup at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.

The Dumbarton manager is taking nothing for granted though despite the win over Danny Lennon’s outfit at the weekend.

“I was delighted with the result on Saturday first and foremost,” he said.

“We’ve not had a lot going our way this season despite putting in a lot of good performances, so Saturday was about getting three points and improving our league position, which we managed to do, so I’m over the moon.

“Psychologically it’s better to see yourself up in seventh. It was important that we took advantage of St Mirren and Livingston not playing to move up to a much healthier position.

“We’re taking this game just as seriously as Saturday because we really want to build momentum. We’ve not really been able to do that so far this year.

“We’ve had a couple of good results then we’ve had tough fixtures like being away to Hibs or Rangers or even the international break, so we want to try and get through in the cup and progress as far as we can.

“I think doing that would have a positive knock-on effect on the league form as well, so it’s a big game for us and it’s one we’re looking to do well in.

“I’m not sure if Saturday’s win over Alloa will give us a psychological edge over them, it can work both ways, and you never seem to have two games the same in football anyway.

“Alloa will be looking to get back to winning ways. Danny has had a tough start and he will be looking to put that right, and there’s no doubt that with the players Alloa have they can come and cause us problems. It will be a tight game and hopefully come the end of it we’ll be in the next round.”
