Most people go to the Canary Islands to relax. It seems Danny MacAskill goes there to risk life and limb.

The daredevil mountain-biker has released an astonishing new video, Cascadia, in which he performs Vertigo-defying stunts on the roofs of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria before plunging into the Atlantic Ocean from a great height.

The five-minute clip is sure to be a hit on the scale of MacAskill's epic The Ridge video, filmed on the highest peaks of his native Isle of Skye.

MacAskill has spawned imitators in Scotland including Kriss Kyle, who filmed his own video white-knuckle ride, Kaleidoscope, last month in a Govan warehouse.

After several weeks of scouting locations, finding the perfect lines and shooting, MacAskill said: “I really wanted to go all out on this clip.

"The architecture, colours and lifestyle in Gran Canaria really spoke to me, so straight away I knew this would be perfect for what I wanted to create.

"I wanted people watching to really feel the vertigo, which is why I wanted to be riding right on the edge, capturing GoPro POV footage."
