A HOSPICE has been given a glowing report after a snap inspection.

The Accord Hospice in Paisley was rated 'excellent' for quality of information and 'very good' for care and support, environment, staffing and management.

Inspectors said the service had a highly motivated and well trained workforce. There was a thorough and proactive approach to training, particularly for developing palliative care.

The hospice, which is based in the grounds of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, offers free medical and nursing care to people in Renfrewshire and parts of East Renfrewshire.

Patients reported that they felt fully involved in discussions about their care and treatment and the options available to them.

The service was described as having excellent systems for managing patient information. Information was well organised and secure and staff were clearly knowledgeable about their responsibilities on maintaining patient confidentiality.

Patients and carers had been involved in choosing the new colour scheme for the bedding, curtains and furniture.

The unannounced inspection was carried out on October 26 and 27.

The hospice was given six recommendations to further improve care which included updating policies and procedures for infection prevention and control.

The Accord has a maximum of nine inpatient beds, with four single and two shared rooms, and a day care service for a maximum of 15 people.
