FIVE members of a suspected ram-raid gang have been arrested by cops, the Evening Times can reveal.

A major police probe was launched after a spate of shop break-ins across Glasgow in recent weeks.

We previously told how ram-raiders allegedly smashed their way into a number of newsagents and convenience stores.

The five young men - aged between 17 and 22-years-old - are alleged to have stolen vehicles and then used them to 'ram-raid' five separate premises.

Police said the 22-year-old was arrested in connection with all five incidents.

Two men, both 20, were held in connection with three of the commercial housebreakings, while two others, aged 17 and 18, were arrested in connection with the remaining two incidents.

Stores in Riddrie, Springburn and Baillieston were among those allegedly targeted in the past month.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Five males, aged between 17 and 22, were arrested in connection with alleged commercial housebreakings in Greater Glasgow."

All five are facing several charges, including housebreaking, theft and theft of a motor vehicle, as well as a raft of road traffic offences.

Shops in Inveresk Street, in East End of Glasgow and Woodhill Road, in Bishopbriggs are also alleged to have been targeted by the 'ram-raid' group.

They are due to appear in court at a later date.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, cash and cigarettes are alleged to have been nicked from the stores.
