John Collins has confirmed that Celtic have taken former Romania under-21 international right-back Andrei Peteleu on trial.

The 23-year-old trained with the Scottish Premiership champions yesterday, with Ronny Deila assessing the defender at Lennoxtown.

The Hoops have also invited 17-year-old Norwegian player Kristoffer Ajer to spend some time training with the club.

"We have two trialists in," said Collins. "We will assess them and they will be here for a week. They are both doing very well."

Collins admitted that Celtic have a long list of targets for the current transfer window although it remains to be seen what business they do.

‘We won’t make any decision. He’s here for a week and once that’s over we’ll sit down and decide if we think he’s good enough and if we can do a deal. But we’ll decide that at the end of the week.

“Kristoffer looks like he’s very happy. You can tell he’s a wonderful professional, he looks great and is smiling, happy and positive. He’s very mature for a young boy.

“It’s a big thing for him to come over here among seasoned professionals and internationals. It tells you a lot about his character and personality that he’s nice and relaxed on the training pitch.

“There’s no tension there. That’s the first thing you notice. We don’t have too many 17-year-olds on our training pitch – some 18 year olds. Our young boys have done well – those who have come up from the academy have trained well.

“But we don’t have too many six foot five midfielders in Scotland.

“Peteleu has not got a club right now. He’s trained well too – so again we’ve been monitoring him. He’s here for the week I believe. He’s a right-back. The scouting department flagged him up and he was available to come in on trial.

“That’s a perfect scenario – bring him in and have a look. I’m all for that – seeing a player in the flesh against our wingers.”

Collins acknowledged that the club have watched Aleksandar Pantic, the Serbian defender, but ruled out a move for Wout Weghorst.

“Yes. I think he’s [Pantic] is being monitored. Like many others, he’s on a list and has been watched. But there’s nothing more happening,” said Collins.

“It’s a long list. We’re monitoring lots of players all over the place and so is every other club in the country.

“We would maybe like one or two but it’s difficult in January. If they are playing well for a club, they aren’t going to sell them just now. But if he’s not playing just now then you are taking a risk by taking an unfit player.”
