Hotel chain Travelodge is to open 19 new sites this year, creating 450 jobs.

The firm said it will invest £140 million in the venture, taking the total number of hotels it runs to 542.

The hotels will be built in London, Poole, Glasgow, Bristol, Bicester, Thetford and Weston-super-Mare.

Travelodge said it had also identified 250 further locations for possible development this year.

Chief executive Peter Gowers said: "These 19 new hotels, many with our new bar cafe restaurants, mark another important step in our drive to deliver greater quality for our customers.

"Our recently completed £100 million hotel modernisation programme has raised quality levels and led to strong growth from business customers to complement our traditional strength in leisure travel.

"We now see opportunity for hotels in 250 further locations across the UK and with early positive development momentum at the start of 2016, we are well positioned to deliver further strong growth in the years ahead."
