SCOTTISH actor Libby McArthur will be donning tartan and reciting the work of the Bard as The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice celebrates Burns.

A Celebration of Burns takes place on Friday, January 15 at Hilton Glasgow.

More than 400 guests will attend the night, compered by Libby, that captures the spirit of Rabbie Burns.

Taking a break from rehearsals for Mum’s the Word 2 at the Citizens, Glasgow, Libby said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting the night.

"It’s a double hit for me - celebrating the hospice and Burns at the same time.

"What could be better?”

Leading Burns performer Chris Tait will address the haggis and give the Immortal Memory, while Burns aficionado Drew Cochrane and actor and comedian Julie Duncanson will deliver Tam O’Shanter.

After tributes to the haggis and a wee dram, there will be dancing to ceilidh band Callanish and the chance to buy original paintings by Scottish artists including award-winning Mairi Aitken and landscape painter Ian Elliot.

Sponsored by Glasgow Airport, the annual event has raised more than £500,000 since it began in 1999.

Rhona Baillie, chief executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice said: “Our fundraising events programme for 2016 kicks off in style with A Celebration of Burns.

“It is a fantastic night to not just toast the Bard but also to join our loyal supporters who are helping us raise the money to build a brand new, state-of-the-art home for Glasgow’s Hospice in Bellahouston Park.

“I’ll raise a glass to that.”

Glasgow’s Hospice is currently fundraising to build a new home on a leafy green site at Bellahouston Park.

The foundations go down in June and it is expected to open its doors to patients in 2018, including offering new services to young people aged 15 and over.
