Angie Bowie has praised ex-husband David for the “staging” of his death but admitted she doubted she would ever see their son Duncan again.

The Celebrity Big Brother contestant revealed that she had been completely unaware of the singer’s cancer as she spoke to the Loose Women team in her first live TV interview since quitting the house.

The 66-year-old former model said of hearing of his death: “It was fine except I couldn’t believe it. I thought I would die first. I don’t think anyone knew (he’d been unwell). In fact let me take this opportunity to say I think he staged his passing rather well.

“Our rancour with each other almost kept us going and I realised I wasn’t angry any more and I thought, ‘Oh my God’.”

Asked if she felt regret at not being able to tell David that she no longer felt angry, Angie replied: “No, no regret whatsoever. He was obnoxious when he was obnoxious and that’s it. But I realised the possibility that I would never hear from him again.”

She then underwent a dogged interrogation from the Loose Women team who challenged her on why she had never tried to get custody of son Duncan Jones, born Zowie.

Angie interrupted host Jane Moore when she said many viewers would not identify with her decision, defiantly saying: “That’s too bad.”

Jane continued: “But why did you not fight at the time?”

Angie said: “Because it’s not an issue of fighting, I had Zowie for David.”

Jane pushed: “So you didn’t want children?”

She replied: “No, it wasn’t a question of that. I said to him at the time I will never fight you for custody. David and his father were this close. Now what kind of a person would I be if I used my son as a weapon in my tool belt during that divorce? Is that not disgusting behaviour?”

Angie agreed with Andrea McLean that it was an act of “ultimate generosity” not selfishness. “Yes it was, it was (King) Solomon and the baby cut in half,” she said.

Angie revealed that the last time she had seen Duncan was when he was “13 or 14″ and a student at Gordonstoun in Scotland and that she did not believe the situation would change.

But she put her foot down and ended the conversation about her family, saying: “I’m sorry, I don’t really have much else to say about it, that’s how I feel about it and it hurts me, and when something hurts me, I put it in something in the back of my head and I close the door. You can ask me till you’re blue in the face and I will say, ‘Yeah whatever’.”

She also confirmed to a tenacious Katie Price that she had been paid for each day she was on the show because she left due to medical reasons.
