AN armed raider tried to steal a charity money tin from a shop – after texting his partner that he was going to carry out a robbery.
Kevin McManus (32) threatened two female workers with a knife at the Spar store in Prestwick, South Ayrshire last February.
One of the women refused to hand over takings after she recognised him as a customer.
McManus then brought out a hammer and tried to smash open a tin collecting cash for a local hospice.
But, the unemployed dad, of Monkton, South Ayrshire, failed and left the shop empty handed.
A judge heard how McManus targeted the Spar store following an argument with his girlfriend.
He then later sent her a message claiming he was going to “do a robbery”.
His lover was so concerned about the text that the police were alerted.
McManus now faces jail after he admitted to a charge of assault and attempted robbery at the High Court in Glasgow.
It emerged the two shop workers were left “frightened and distressed’ by what happened.
Lady Scott continued bail for McManus until sentencing on February 23 in Edinburgh.
