Holly Willoughby couldn’t contain her emotions as the This Morning gang surprised an inspirational young carer live on air.

Holly was seen wiping tears from her eyes as she and Phillip Schofield joined Michael Underwood from the studio at a school in Ayr.

There, 13-year-old pupil Amy was presented with an iPad, books and singing lessons by Michael in recognition for her amazing work as a young carer to her mother – who suffers aneurysms in her neck and brain – and her two disabled siblings.

Tears poured down the cheeks of mum-of-three Holly and she hurriedly brushed them away as they chatted on the phone to Amy, who thought she’d been called to the headmaster’s office to be told off.

As Amy said, “Thank you, thank you so much! This is like far too much! This is unbelievable, I thought I was getting into trouble,” Holly, Michael and Phil burst out laughing.

Holly replied: “You are an amazing little girl, you really are. What an incredible thing to do.”

Holding her hand to her chest, she turned to Phil and said, “It’s all too much, I can’t”.

The presenters were then joined by Oritse Williams from JLS who was supporting Young Carers Awareness Day and he offered personal singing lessons to Amy too.

Amy is one of 700,000 carers under the age of 18 in the UK who may miss out on a social life to look after their families.

“I’m definitely missing out, but it’s a part of my life, and that’s the way it is… I love my family more than I can say. I don’t know what I’d do without them,” Amy said.
