SOME of Glasgow’s finest young performers will join big names at the City Halls next week in a celebration of music from stage and screen.

Glasgow Philharmonia Orchestra, led by 21-year-old conductor Ross Gunning, is back at the venue for its second Movies to Musicals concert.

It will take place on Monday, February 8, and the glittering line up includes Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall, West End star Sabrina Carter, singer and actor Josh Taylor and Karl Loxley, from BBC’s The Voice.

The orchestra – which comprises more than 40 talented musicians aged between 16 and 28 – will also be joined by musical theatre performers and 16 local children.

Ross said: “We are really looking forward to bringing Movies to Musicals to the stage, following our successful concert last year.

“We have an exciting programme lined up, including songs from Wicked, West Side Story, Pirates of the Caribbean and more.

“We’re delighted to be joined by Jai, Sabrina, Josh and Karl – it’s going to be a fantastic night.”

Glasgow Philharmonia has had a busy three years since former Royal Conservatoire of Scotland student Ross set it up.

Many of the young musicians are students, and the orchestra has built up a fantastic, national reputation.

Highlights include its popular summer concerts, a sell-out at the Stars on Parade charity concert in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and their electrifying performance at the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Vue Cinema.

The orchestra has also recorded albums with singer/songwriters Karl Loxley and Jonathan Carr and released a charity single for the Lord Provost Queens Street Fund with Tom Urie.
