Glasgow Times:

SHE was spotted by a talent scout while shopping in Glasgow and went on to take the modelling world by storm.

Now Scottish supermodel Eunice Olumide will be seen in a galaxy far, far away after landing a small role in the next Star Wars film.

And she could also be immortalised as one of the sci-fi franchises actions figures or in a video game based on the series.

Eunice's part is in the film Rogue One, a spin-off to he new Star Wars trilogy launched last year, which details the exploits of the team of spies who captured to plans to the Death Star before the start of the original films.

She spoke about her time on the inside of one of the most beloved film franchises when she appeared in Glasgow on Thursday to help publicise a new recycling drive by Zero Waste Scotland.

Eunice, 28, who was born to Nigerian parents in the Wester Hailes housing scheme in Edinburgh, told how she travelled to Pinewood studios and spent days on set dodging explosions and dressing up in the outlandish costumes the series is famous for.

But when the film comes to the silver screen she may be unrecognisable as her part required her face to be covered up with an alien mask.

She said: "It was an absolutely amazing experience and a bit like being on another world. When you go on to the set it's absolutely massive and all around you, like stepping onto another planet.

"I did not get any lines, but I got to wear this really outlandish costume and run through a bar while a tank comes after us. The about 20 stormtroopers pile out and there's lots of explosions.

"I had a hard time getting used to those. They were really load and you couldn't help reacting to them when they went off."

She added that she had originally been cast as a nomad, but got picked for to join the team of rebels because of her athleticism.

She said: "The other part was a bit better because you could see my face, and now I have this sort of mushroom on my head. A bit ironic, seeing as I'm a model.

"They found out I do boxing and mixed martial arts, so they decided to give me a part as I'd be comfortable running about.

"It was 12-hour days, with a lot hard work sprinting through sand. But it felt really cool to be a part of all that."

While filming was taking place the crew took 3D scans of Eunice, which were entered into the Lucasarts archive. Now her likeness could be digitised for a game or made into one a star wars toy.

She added: "I could become an action figure, and that feels really weird."

Aside from her brush with the billion-dollar making series, Eunice will also soon be appearing in the big screen adaption of the hit TV show Absolutely Fabulous alongside Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley.

She joined Zero Waste Scotland to encourage people to get involved in Pass it On Week between 5 and 13 March by organising their own ‘swap shop’ events.

The focus of the campaign is to help keep the things we use, including our clothing, in circulation for longer in order to reduce our impact on the environment.
