GLASGOW MSPs have condemned a so called ‘pick up artist’ and pro-rape blogger in the House of Commons.

MPs welcomed the forced cancellation of planned events by Daryush Valizadeh in Glasgow and Edinburgh where he shares his tips on how men can coerce women to sleep with them and .

Valizadeh, who operates under the name Roosh V, was roundly condemned and was described as “a sick individual” and his supporters as “sick minded half-wits”.

The controversial blogger had organised events in Scotland and English cities promoting his ideas and his ‘neo-masculinist group Return of Kings.

They were cancelled after protests were planned and Valizadeh said he was concerned for his followers’ safety saying he had received more threats from Glasgow than anywhere else.

Police however said they would still monitor the situation and police the locations were meetings were planned.

Stewart McDonald Glasgow South SNP MP, condemned the blogger and ridiculed his followers as socially inadequate

He said: “That this recent in Glasgow has been cancelled shows people indeed do make Glasgow.

“Any event planned to coach men to coerce women into having sex is not a free speech issue but a public safety issue.

“Can I also condemn the sick minded half-wits who support these events and were planning to attend and welcome that they will now be sitting in their underpants eating cold ravioli form a tin instead this weekend.”

Others called asked if Valizadeh could be prevented from entering the UK.

Chris Stephens, Glasgow South West SNP MSP, urged the UK Government to monitor the movements of Roosh V and his associates.

He said: “I wrote to the Home Secretary on this issue following the outrage and anger of my constituents.

“The Australian Government stated it would monitor any applications form Roosh V will the UK government do likewise for him and any members of his Return of Kings group which is promoting a diet of hate.

Valizadeh has previously said rape should be legal if committed on private property, a statement he has since claimed was “satirical”.

Alison Thewliss, Glasgow Central SNP MP, praised those determined to ensure the meetings didn’t take place and Police Scotland for their cooperation

She said: “It seems a ridiculous irony these events were cancelled for the safety of his supporters given the nature of the events.

“I pay tribute to those campaigners in Glasgow who forced the cancellation of the event and I join the condemnation of this sick individual and his misogynist followers. Sex without consent is rape.”

Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland is aware that the proposed events, originating from the Roosh V website, on Saturday in Edinburgh and Glasgow have been cancelled. Concerns were raised about these events by people via both social media and through 101.

“We want to reassure the public that although the events have been cancelled we will continue to monitor the situation including the use of social media, and will respond appropriately. Police Scotland will continue to have a presence in both locations on Saturday. We would ask that you report any suspect behaviour to Police Scotland.”
