Dear Strictly Live,

Thank you for rolling into town, with your silly, sparkly, shiny show, and brightening up a wet and windy February night.

Thank you for giving Jay and Aliona, who won the 2015 telly series, the chance to show off their outstanding Pulp Fiction jive once again (the SSE Hydro audience nearly brought the house down as a result).

Thank you for bringing Jake back, 2014 semi-finalist and one of the few men who can make pink shirts and samba hips look manly.

Thank you, too, for reminding us how completely brilliant Anita is, whether fiery in red for a sensational paso doble or elegant in white for a romantic American smooth, twirling and whirling around Gleb. Ah, Gleb. Yes - thank you, for Gleb.

Thank you for sending the judges back - we missed them on last year's tour, when they were replaced by one-time series winners Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup. It is good to know Bruno's talent for putting his foot in his mouth (and his legs in the air) isn't confined to the TV studio; and it was equally satisfying to see Craig in action, mangling the English language by adding syllables where there are none (since when is in-di-vi-du-ha-oal an actual word?); and Len, all Gordon tartan and surreal asides which, scripted or not, are still really funny if you're hearing them for the first time.

Thank you for marvellous Mel Giedroyc, gloriously resplendent in sparkly trainers, whose hilarious commentary and ad hoc contemporary dance moves were so funny it is ESSENTIAL she returns as host every year until the end of time. And thank you for the music - particularly Andrea's jaw-droppingly beautiful rendition of Etta James's At Last and Hayley's soaring vocals on Defying Gravity.

Thank you, too, for squeezing as many Scottish references (from Rab C and the Barras to see-you-jimmy-hats and Craig's saltire underpants) in to a three-hour show as is humanly possible - I reckon you only missed Irn Bru and Billy Connolly, but there's always next year.

And finally, dear Strictly Live, thank you for the weirdness and wonderfulness, for the crazy flying broomsticks and giant beachballs, for the fancy footwork and frilly frocks, for the glitz and the glamour.

Long may your glitterball sparkle.

Love from

Glasgow
