Twitter posts may no longer be displayed in time order amid suggestions the social media network is preparing to undergo a major shake-up.
Reports claim the reverse chronological feature - which sees the newest tweet displayed on top of older posts - will be replaced with a setting favouring more popular or relevant posts.
The rumours prompted users of the 140-character micro-blogging site to get #RIPTwitter trending.
One user, with the handle @RyanAbe, wrote: "Twitter, I use you because you aren't facebook...so stop trying to be like facebook #RIPtwitter"
Benjamin Allbright added: "I have no idea why @Twitter is doing its best to become everything everyone hates about facebook. Add an edit button & be done. #RIPTwitter"
Daniel Bostic wrote: "I'm confused as to why Twitter is so hellbent on destroying Twitter? #RIPTwitter"
