A severe weather warning has been issued for the west of Scotland, and drivers are urged to be on their guard.

The Met Office has put in place a yellow warning of rain for Glasgow, Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire.

There will be rain accompanied by gale force winds of up to 45-55mph across the region, and 60-65mph on bridges and in exposed costal areas.

The warning is in place rom 9am today until 6am on Monday morning.

Drivers are urged to be aware of difficult driving conditions caused by standing water and spray, and perhaps by localised surface water flooding.
