A popular men's retailer has closed its doors in Glasgow after trading in the city for 24 years. 

Independent fashion retailer Aspecto shut its doors for good on Sunday, January 31 leaving the city's fashion fans devastated. 

The firm, who started trading in Manchester in 1986 before setting up in Glasgow, was situated in the city's Gordon Street and Mitchell Street.

Aspecto then moved to Glasgow's plush designer district on Ingram Street next to stores such as Cruise and Pretty Green. 

The company posted on their Facebook the announcement.

A member of staff Gary said, "After 24 years of trading in the city, the Glasgow branch will be closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, January 31.

"I would to thank all the loyal customers and friends who have shopped and supported the store throughout those years.

"I would also like to take this opportunity and thank all the staff who I have worked with over the past 16+ years for all their hard work and support and I wish the current staff every success in their future.

"Its been a privilege."

Customers could not believe the news and were quick to respond to the post. 

Kevin Palmer said: "Massive loss for Glasgow. Actually gutted at this news. Was my second home for a while. All the best to the staff whatever they move on to."

Robert Power added: "Great shop along with Dr Jives and the Levi Store that was down on Argyle Street, my favourite three clothes shops and the Arches gone as well, what's happening to Glasgow?"

Crocket the Ironmonger also closed its iconic premises after nearly 50 years in Glasgow city centre last year.

The move by the family firm which was founded in 1870 was part of plans to restructure the business on the back of changes in the UK retailing environment.

The company said was expanding its retail premises in Ayr and will continue to trade as an online retailer via its website and through its contracts division.
