THE Scottish Greens have outlined the election campaign themes they hope will bring a record number of Green MSPs in May.

Green leader and Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie launched the campaign in Glasgow with the message Holyrood needs to be bolder with the powers it has to improve communities and create sustainable economic opportunities.

He said the issues were jobs, affordable housing, community control, fracking, the Living Wage and training.

The Greens claim it can deliver 204,000 jobs in clean, green industries and can help small businesses, social enterprises, and employee-owned ventures to flourish with a green economic strategy.

They will argue for better quality housing improved energy efficiency to eradicate fuel poverty and higher standards and lower rents in the private rented sector.

Mr Harvie said more Green MSPs would push for power to be held in communities over land ownership and an equal say in planning decisions.

IT wants fracking to be banned completely, calls for a Carers Wage and a commitment to a job, training or education guarantee for every school leaver.

Mr Harvie launched the campaign at Oran Mor in Byres Road in Glasgow, where he is contesting the Kelvin constituency as well as targeting two MSPs on the regional list 2nd vote.

He said: “We believe that Scotland can be a better country for everyone who lives here and for a better Scotland, we need a bolder Holyrood.

“We believe that Scotland can unlock the power of our communities to invest in jobs, health and the economy. We believe that the Scottish Parliament can be so much bolder in meeting the ambitions of the people of Scotland.

“The Scottish Greens have the people and the policies to make that happen. Our candidates have a solid track record of making a difference inside and outside Parliament.”
