PEOPLE of all ages and abilities are being urged to take part in a Sport Relief event in Glasgow next month.

The Sainsbury's Games will involve walking, running, swimming or cycling to help families and individuals dealing with hardship in the UK and overseas.

Glasgow is one of six cities across the UK which will hold a Games event - the others are London, Belfast, Cardiff, Norwich and Sheffield.

The Glasgow Sport Relief Games will take place on Sunday March 20 in Glasgow Green and surrounding areas.

The running event will be held in the park, the cycle route will skirt the Clyde towards the East End and city centre and the swimathon action will be held in Glasgow Club Gorbals.

Visitors to Glasgow Green will be able to try a range of sports being offered by local clubs and will be entertained by music throughout the day.

Glasgow Life Chairman Archie Graham said: "The Sport Relief Games promises to be one of the highlights in an incredible sporting year in Glasgow. We are a city that loves sport and that will be on show during the Games.

"We are also a city with a big heart and I know the people of Glasgow will get behind Sport Relief and raise money for those less well off in communities across the country and the world."

Participants will be able to run or walk, one, three or six miles those taking part in the swimathon can opt for 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k routes and there will be a three mile family cycle event.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James opted to start his own Sports Relief fundraising event in the city.

He is attempting to complete a triathlon a day for five consecutive days in and around five UK cities.
