CREATIVE cartoon fans from East Kilbride have made their own comic book story in a bid to help local charities.

Adam Reid, 11, Gordon Johnston, 12, and Greg Adamson, 11, who are all pupils at Canberra Primary, dreamt up a brilliant tale of accidental superheroes – including a daring dog, a multi-coloured lizard and a crazy cat – and then sold it to friends and family.

“We really like cartoons, especially the ones that are drawn by hand because they always look better,” explains Adam, who did all the artwork for the comic, which is called The Olympians Hero Squad.

“I did the drawing and the three of us did the storyboarding and came up with the characters. It’s been fun to do and we are already working on our next issue.”

Gordon said: “The first adventure was all about introducing the characters, but the next one is set in a dentist’s waiting room, where a war starts between the superheroes and their enemies.”

Greg added: “We were really lucky to get help from a local printer’s called McAllister Litho, who printed the comics for us. We sold them all and made £50 for TextSanta, which donates money to Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children.”

Adam adds: “For our next issue, we want to help Guide Dogs for the Blind. It’s a lot of fun making the comics and it’s great if we can help charities too.”
