Hundreds of people raised cash to combat heart disease by taking part in a sponsored run in Glasgow’s south side.

Pollok Country Park was the setting for British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland’s ‘Glasgow Winter Warmer’ on St Valentine’s Day.

Around 700 people of all ages and abilities registered to walk, jog or run 5k or 10k to raise funds for world-leading research, much of which is taking place in Glasgow.

BHF Scotland’s local Fundraising Manager, Nina Coy, said: “Thanks to their determination, we’ll be raising vital funds to power our life saving research.”

Coronary heart disease is Scotland’s single biggest killer. For more than 50 years BHF has pioneered research that’s transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions.

The charity’s work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.

Ms Coy added: “We’re currently funding over £19 million worth of research, into cardiovascular disease, here in Glasgow and we can only make that happen thanks to the people who raise money for us.

“Every single walker and runner who gets sponsored is helping to save lives.”
