A major Canadian airline is to put on more flights from Glasgow this summer.

Air Transat has announced an extra two weekly flights from the city travel hub to Vancouver, starting in June.

Between Thursday, June 23, and Saturday, October 29, jet setters will be able to fly to the west coast city via Toronto on Thursdays and Saturdays, as well as on the existing direct service on Wednesdays.

It comes after the airline revealed a new weekly, direct Glasgow-to-Montreal service would begin flying in May. Starting on Monday, May 30, the flight will run every Monday and return every Sunday until October 2.

Lesley Kane, sales director UK and Ireland at Air Transat, said the move “brings our Scottish connections to four great Canadian cities, and adds to Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, which have been staple destinations for over 20 years”.

She said there was “a deep, historic connection between Scotland and Quebec”, and said the airline was looking forward to the new venture.

The route was welcomed by council and Glasgow airport chiefs.
