A WOMAN was arrested after allegedly attacking an 88-year-old man with a hammer.

The 40-year-old is accused of repeatedly striking the elderly man repeatedly on the head and body with the tool during the disturbance at a property in Clydebank.

The alleged attack took place in Cowal View at around 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Police confirmed he was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 40-year-old woman has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with an incident in Cowal View, Duncan Street, Clydebank, 12.30pm on Tuesday February 16, in which an 88-year-old man sustained serious injuries.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

She is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today.
