AN 82-YEAR-OLD man who was attacked on his doorstep in a case of mistaken identity has spoken out about his horror ordeal.

Masked thugs - who pretended to be cops - forced their way inside his Baillieston home before ransacking his bedroom.

The pensioner told the Evening Times: "They kept asking me where the money was, it was terrifying.

"The wee one held me down so I couldn't move and the other one ransacked the bedroom, looking for money.

"They said I had thousands of pounds hidden under my mattress, but I don't have anything like that in here.

"The worst is thinking what they could have done to me."

Both suspects, who were wearing balaclavas and gloves, eventually fled the house empty handed.

The pensioner's ordeal began at around 10.30pm on Thursday night when there was a knock at his door.

He thinks the masked duo got the "wrong house" and thought he was someone else.

He said: "When they were demanding the money, I explained I only had a couple of hundred pounds in the house and if they would take that.

"But they refused. It was the most bizarre thing.

"One of them said they would be killed if they didn't find the money. I just have no idea what it was all about.

"I think they must have got the wrong house.

"I've lived here for more than 45 years and there has never been a bit of bother."

The two men were last seen running from the house into Bredisholm Road.

A police source said: "The attackers have definitely been looking for something specific."

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed an investigation was underway into the incident.

He said: "Officers received a report of an assault with intent to rob in Baillieston, Glasgow at around 10.30pm on Thursday February 18.

"Inquiries are ongoing."

Detectives have urged any witnesses to come forward and are carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the local area.
