TV PRESENTER Carol Smillie and her dog, Jess, were the stars of the show yesterday as a new, £1 million vets 'super practice' was officially opened.

The honours were performed by Carol and Stewart McDonald, SNP MP for Glasgow South, at The Roundhouse Veterinary Hospital, in Pollokshaws.

The facility is the work of The Pets’n’Vets Family, which was voted Glasgow's Favourite Business by readers of the Evening Times at the 2015 Glasgow Business Awards.

The new practice occupies a 7,500 sq ft, customised space at 43-47 Cogan Road, in Auldhouse Retail Park.

And the company believes it will deliver a step change to the standard of veterinary care available in the city, providing comprehensive pet care seven days a week, caring for animals around the clock and providing late night consultations when required.

A client Open Day takes place at The Roundhouse between 10am and 3pm tomorrow.

Pets‘n’Vets partner Oliver Jackson said: “The hospital has been designed to deliver the whole suite of pet care services, from nail clipping to vaccinations to some of the most complex surgical veterinary procedures.

"It provides these services locally, at sensible cost and to the highest clinical standards."

He added: “It enables us to care for animals 24 hours a day as there are nursing staff living on-site so that animals can receive continuous treatment through the night.

"This, along with the fact that we are the only practice in Glasgow to have vets qualified to RCVS Advanced Practitioner Status (Cardiology and Surgery) within our staff, mean our team are well placed to transform veterinary care across the city.”

The facility features separate cat and dog waiting and consultation rooms as well as separate in-patient wards to reduce stress. In the clinical wing, the facility boasts two sterile theatres with a separate scrub area, a designated dental theatre, large patient preparation and state-of the art diagnostic suites.

It also features a dedicated room in which owners will be able to discuss the health of their pet with the vet.
