A man was found with horrific head injuries in a Glasgow street after two mystery callers raised the alarm.

Emergency services raced to Hope Street, near to its junction with Argyle Street, when they were tipped off about the victim.

He was rushed to hospital and was later diagnosed with a fractured skull.

Police urgently appealed for the two men who called emergency services to contact them again.

The incident happened at around 4.30am on Friday February 19.

Detective Constable Stephen Palmer, from Stewart Street CID, said: "A man has been left with a very serious head injury as a result of this attack. "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish what happened.

"I would like to speak to anyone with information about this incident, particularly the two people who called an ambulance for the victim.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact officers at Stewart Street CID on 101."
