One of the UK’s largest value retailers has announced it will open a new store in Glasgow as part of an ambitious expansion into the Scottish market.

Poundworld have said that their new store, situated at Robroyston Retail Park, will create 30 new jobs and form the next stage of a campaign to open 10 more stores across Scotland in the next six months, employing 300 new members of staff.

The pound shop firm already has more than 315 stores nationwide and is one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK, employing more than 6,000 people.

Poundworld trading director Chris Edwards Junior said: “We currently have stores at Glasgow Forge Retail Park and Glasgow Argyle Street and we’re expecting our new store to be another popular addition to the city. It’s a great convenient location with free parking for customers.

“It’s our target to open a further ten stores in Scotland in the next six months to add to our existing network of 26 stores, creating 300 jobs in the process.

“Since the start of 2016, we’ve already brought our incredible value offering to two new locations in Glasgow, opening stores in Wishaw and Shawlands.”

The Robroyston Retail Park opening will take the group's total store estate to 318 outlets with plans to open a further sixty stores annually in the next three years.

The new store will offer more than 5,000 products at a single price across ranges including groceries, cleaning, health and beauty, pet care, toys and stationery.

No details have been provided yet on where the proposed 10 new Scottish stores will be opened.
