A GLASGOW art student has joined a collection of textile designers who make products for Ikea furniture.

A design by Rosie Jack - third year textile student at The Glasgow School of Art - will be added to the Bemz designer collection.

This comes after Rosie, 21, from Fife, became the UK winner of the second edition of the prestigious international Bemz Design Award.

The competition, hosted by Bemz, the company known for its designer covers for Ikea furniture, invited students from leading design schools around the UK to submit their creations for a new fabric for the range of slipcovers, bedcovers and curtains.

Almost 5,000 people chose Ms Jack’s “Urquhart” design, inspired by her family farm in Scotland.

She said: "When our tutors alerted us to the Bemz Award I was really excited as it was the first time that we had worked on an interiors project,” says Rosie. “As I specialise in knitted textiles it was particularly interesting because it brought a different dimension to my design work applying it in a non-fashion context.”

“For me the application for the award was also very personal. I’m interested in sustainable design and was able to work with raw wool in creating the Urquhart design.”

“It’s great that my work has been recognised from an outside perspective, particularly by a global company with such a high reputation as Bemz. I’m also grateful to all the people who voted for my design enabling me to go forward to the international final.”

“I’m excited by the prospect of the design going into production and future opportunities that might come from this.”
