The family of missing Glasgow dad John Murphy have been contacted by cops over 'potential human remains' found in a country park.

The Sun reported that police contacted relatives about the discovery of bone fragments and clothes at Mugdock Country Park yesterday.

The dad-of-five left his home in Craigpark Drive at around 7am on May 12 and headed towards Duke Street to catch a bus to work.

He did not turn up at his workplace and was reported missing by his family that evening.

His son revealed through a Facebook page set up to share details of the search for his dad that officers had contacted him about the discovery at the park.

He posted: "CID have contacted us, along with many other families, letting us know inquiries are being carried out that could take a few days.

"The remains have yet to be confirmed as even being human yet.

"There is no information available at all at the moment - we will have to be patient and wait to hear any news."

It is understood that other families have also been tipped off by police following the find near waterworks in Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie on Tuesday.

A police source said: "Inquiries are ongoing and relevant families are being informed.

"While it's far too early to say who it is, we're keeping an open mind."

Mr Murphy is around 5ft 8in and of medium build, with short brown hair which is turning grey.
