A MAN has been injured after a major fire ripped through an Inverclyde industrial estate.
As reported by our sister paper the Greenock Telegraph, a large-scale emergency operation was mounted at units in Ardgowan Street next to the Kingston Dock housing estate, Port Glasgow, yesterday.
Vehicles and a boat were in the units affected by the blaze, which broke out at 2.30pm.
Flames shot into the air and thick plumes of black smoke fanned by high winds could be seen billowing into the area around Port Glasgow and Greenock.
A 39-year-old man was treated at the scene for minor burns to his hands.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said five appliances with 25 firefighters from Greenock and Port Glasgow were in attendance.
A spokesman said: "The incident involved three industrial units, two of which were well alight. There appeared to be two buses, six cars and a small boat inside. Gas cylinders were also involved.
"There has been a partial collapse of the structure of one unit."
Water was poured on to the building from a high-reach platform and four ground-based jets.
Crews stayed at the scene to damp down flames and investigate the cause of the fire.
