A CARE worker has been struck off for angry outbursts towards dementia patients and a brain injury sufferer.

Former care assistant Agnes Caldwell stated, when one vulnerable man asked for help: "Can you no see I am busy?"

She also shouted "sit down" and "when are you going to learn" at people she was supposed to be caring for, a watchdog found.

Ms Caldwell, who was working at Braemount Care Home in Paisley at the time, has now been removed from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register following a conduct hearing.

The hearing found that in July 2014, while working with patients in Nethercraigs House, the care worker shouted and "acted in an aggressive manner" towards a service user who suffered from a brain injury.

When the man - described as "very vulnerable" and dependant on staff for all aspects of personal care - asked for help she told him she was busy and he responded by calling Ms Caldwell a "f**king idiot".

Ms Caldwell responded by pointing at the man and shouting "just like you then", found the SSSC.

On other separate occasions during meal times she was said to have shouted at three female dementia sufferers telling them "sit down at the table", "when are you going to learn", "stop touching it" and "you have to eat this".

Ms Caldwell was also said to have sworn in front of service users over a disagreement about shifts.

A decision, published on the SSSC website, states: "The context of each of those three incidents was your apparent frustration and resulting outburst of anger at their behaviour during the meal times concerned.

"The context also included their dementia, their vulnerability, the power that you had over them at the time and the fact that Nethercraigs House was the home environment of each of them.

"By your behaviour you placed all three very vulnerable service users at risk of harm."

A SSSC hearing, which Ms Caldwell did not attend, heard testimonies from former colleagues.

Watchdogs were also told that the former care assistant is now retired and no longer works in this field and was dismissed from the care home in September 2014 after a disciplinary investigation.

The hearing was told that Ms Caldwell had a good previous employment history and professional practice but this had "deteriorated during the course of 2014".

The SSSC stated that the "only appropriate action was a removal order".

Ms Caldwell has 14 days to appeal the decision.
