A man survived a 35ft fall from a busy motorway bridge in Glasgow - thanks to a wheelie bin.

The 27-year-old was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after suffering serious injuries during the fall which happened at the Kingston Bridge on Sunday at around 3.30am.

The victim, however, has been branded “very lucky” because the bin stopped him smashing into concrete according to The Scottish Sun.

A source told the newspaper: “To survive a fall like this is nothing short of a miracle.

“He appears to have landed on a wheelie bin and then bounced on to the ground.

“The bin may have saved his life. His injuries would have been a lot worse if he had hit the concrete first.”

CCTV captured the man walking on the offramp towards the M8 yards from the Kingston Bridge where it is believed he lost his balance and dropped into a gated lane near the Hilton Hotel.

The bin which saved him is owned by Spanish banking firm Santander, and cops said he had been fighting for his life but his condition had improved last night.

He’s now described as “stable” and it is understood to have been left with “severe” injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A man had fallen from the overhead bypass of the M8 in Glasgow city centre.

“Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the circumstances.”
