Leigh Griffiths has vowed to keep his nose clean in the title run-in – since he does not want to watch any celebrations from the stand.

The Hoops forward was booked during the 2-1 win over Motherwell at the weekend, a caution that means he is just one booking away from suspension.

It is the second time the forward has been booked for hauling off his top in the midst of a goal celebration this season and Griffiths has admitted that he now wants to stay on the straight and narrow as Celtic hunt down a potential league and Cup double.

“I took the booking and maybe it wasn’t the best idea in the world then,” he said. "But to be fair to myself, there was a lot of anger in the celebration.

“I felt as though I had been getting a fair bit of stick over the last few weeks from fans and pundits – one or two pundits in particular really seemed to get stuck into me – and I was so pleased to get a goal. In particular there was one guy on the radio who had a real pop so when I scored it was just a reaction. It just came out.

“But no-one wants to sit out of the team.

“The last thing you want is to serve a suspension, especially if it could be the day that the league is actually won or the trophy handed out. So, I’ll try and keep the sensible head on as we kick on for the last five games.”

Meanwhile, Griffiths was also keen to laud the contribution this season of Kieran Tierney, who set up both of his goals on Saturday.

The 18-year-old is the outstanding candidate for the SPFA Young Player of the Year award and Griffiths believes that the teenager is worth the praise that has gone his way this season.

“He keeps telling me that he is setting up all my goals,” joked Griffiths. “But to be fair to the wee man, he has been excellent for us this season. He is a lad with a massive future. He has been a revelation this season and he has been getting better and better this season.

“He won’t be bothered by all the build-up this week to the game. He is one of those players who just seems to take everything in his stride. He will be absolutely fine and a game of this size will be good for him. He’ll enjoy it, that’s for sure.”
