The Harry Potter fandom is more divided than the four Hogwarts houses so when JK Rowling revealed her favourite character from the series, it was always going to be contentious.
The author was asked by a fan who her favourite character is – after Harry himself obviously – and she replied (drum-roll, please)… Albus Dumbledore!
Dumbledore. https://t.co/pY9HKUHiaB

Yes, the wise Hogwarts headmaster and wizarding badass who took Harry under his wing before he died at the hands of Severus Snape in The Half Blood Prince (although he was already dying from wearing a cursed ring).
Obviously.

But her choice of Dumbledore angered some fans.
Like those who thought she was heartless for killing him off.
@jk_rowling then why did you MURDER HIM
(it made a great story I understand)

And those who thought he wasn’t the best role model.
@jk_rowling @mahanadam he literally abandoned a baby on a doorstep & left him in an abusive home for the next 11 years………

And those who weren’t able to separate their opinions from Rowling’s.
@jk_rowling what about McGonagall? (she's my favorite)
— cate blanquett (@rowIingstones) April 11, 2016
@jk_rowling and what about Hagrid? He is a very important "father figure" to Harry too, isn't him?

@jk_rowling and what about Snape? Do u think he is a good guy or just someone really in love?

Her revelation came as she explained more about Dumbledore’s relationship with Newt Scamander, the protagonist of the new film Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
In the newly released first trailer for the film, the narrator can be heard saying: “You’re an interesting man, Mr Scamander. Just like your suitcase, there’s much more to you than meets the eye.
“Kicked out of Hogwarts for endangering human life with a beast. Yet one of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion.

“I wonder, what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr Scamander?”
Rowling answered mind-boggled fans’ questions on Monday about the pair’s unexpected connection on why they were friends and why Dumbledore couldn’t stop him being expelled from Hogwarts.
Albus Dumbledore is fond of Newt Scamander for the same reasons that I am fond of Newt Scamander. You're welcome. https://t.co/bNdwX6Tf40

Dumbledore was a young teacher at the time Newt was expelled. He wasn't able to revoke expulsions. https://t.co/UskHwSQvtJ

Does this mean there’ll be an appearance from a young Dumbledore at some point in the trilogy?
