A RENOVATED water pump which is over 100 years old has been nicked.

The water pump, who was recently renovated, was taken from the new shelter near to the Hamilton Bros shop on Montgomerie Street in Tarbolton.

Police in Ayrshire say the theft happened between 7am on April 3 and 3.30pm on April 6.

The Glenfield water pump is described as 3ft in height. It is British racing green in colour with two gold headed monkeys (as pictured).

The pump has recently been renovated by David Olgivie Engineering and gifted to the Tarbolton community, and is believed to be over 100 years old.

Community Inspector Jim Hendrie said: “Time and effort has been put in to the restoration of this unique piece of history and it had been placed in a prominent position to the benefit of all the residents and visitors to the area.

"It is a disgrace that the people responsible for the theft have deprived the community of this and we will be making every effort to trace those responsible.

"I would ask anyone with information on this incident or the whereabouts of the stolen water pump to contact Police Scotland by calling 101 or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111."
