Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a 76 year-old man missing from the Ibrox area since yesterday.

Walter Smith (76) was last confirmed at his home address on Clifford Gardens at around 1800 hours on Saturday 16 April. His disappearance was reported to the police today and enquiries are ongoing to trace Walter safe and well.

He is described as a white man, with a slim build and approximately 5 foot 8” in height. He has white grey hair and wears glasses.

He is understood to be wearing a black and white checked jacket under a blue anorak coat. He is smartly dressed and usually wears a shirt and tie when he leaves his house. It is also possible that he was in possession of a black and white umbrella.

Walter has Alzheimer's disease. He takes regular medication and it is not known if he has his tablets with him.

Inspector Thomasina Howe of Greater Glasgow Police Division said today:

“It is unlike Walter to be gone for this period of time. There are real concerns for his wellbeing given that Walter has Alzheimer's disease.

“Our focus is to trace Walter safe and well. Officers are currently searching for Walter across Glasgow. We are checking available CCTV and contacting staff in local businesses to assist with the search.

​“We understand that Walter frequently visits Buchanan bus station on route to Arkelston Cemetery. He also frequents the Penilee and Kings Park areas of Glasgow.

“At this time we seek assistance from the public in tracing Walter safe and well. If anyone has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact police at Govan police office immediately on the 101 number."
