THIEVES stole a high performance car from a family home – and returned to the scene of the crime days later to steal another car from the same family.

The criminals even managed the second heist despite the family changing all the locks on their cars.

Harry Fraser, who lives in the Gardenhall area of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, put out an appeal on Facebook after his BMW was stolen sometime in the early hours of Sunday, April 10.

Mr Fraser, who was holidaying in Spain with his wife at the time, said his house was broken into while his son Stuart was fast asleep upstairs.

The raiders took an iPad as well as several keys belonging to various members of the family’s cars.

They drove off with Harry’s black BMW X5 4D M sport which features the registration number H5F HF.

The family decided to change all the locks on the remaining cars as a security measure following the break-in.

But the thieves returned to the scene of the crime, and managed to make off with Harry’s son-in-law’s car on the early hours of Sunday morning.

Harry explained: “My daughter and son-in-law came over for a Chinese meal and a few drinks. He left his car overnight at our house because he had a couple of drinks.

“I am a light sleeper and around 4am I heard the sound of an engine starting. It was quite easy to recognise that it was my son-in-law’s car as it is diesel and has a distinctive sound.

“I looked out of the window and I spotted a grey Mercedes AMG estate car just shooting out of the street.”

The metallic grey Toyota RAV4 features the registration number P200 ULT, and was stolen despite the change of locks.

The family have since added the extra security measure of internal and external CCTV cameras, security lights and a new house alarm system since the double theft happened.

Harry said: “I am just shocked and surprised.

“The Mercedes car the thieves are driving suggests they are professionals. It is high powered and police would have no chance of catching them.

“This will only end when they are caught and at the end of the day it is only a car and no-one was hurt.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have received a report of two stolen cars from a property in East Kilbride and enquiries are continuing."
