In 2011, the SNP played up the contribution under Alex Salmond’s leadership of Nicola Sturgeon at health, John Swinney at finance, Kenny MacAskill at justice, Michael Russell on education and Richard Lochhead in environment.

At this year’s launch and in the manifesto the cabinet secretaries barely get a look in other than to applaud.

Glasgow Times:

Ms Sturgeon billed the party manifesto on which 73 constituency candidates and many more on the list are standing as “my job application”.

It is Nicola Sturgeon who is seeking a “personal mandate” and making personal commitments on policies “rooted in my own life experience”.

It moves the focus from electing a parliament of 129 MSPs to electing a First Minister in a way Westminster elections have been criticised for being too presidential focusing on electing a Prime Minister.

The reason why the SNP is adopting this is clear and if other party’s had a leader who was as strong an asset they would likely do the same.

Nicola Sturgeon’s approval ratings are, compared to other party leaders, sky–high.

Her personal approval is also higher than satisfaction with her government on various policy areas.

The manifesto is not short on policies, nor is it short on record and vision. It is however short on team.

It seems there is ‘no team in I’.
