A TEENAGER has been left with a serious facial injury after a gang of youths attacked him in Wishaw.

The 15-year-old was seriously assaulted on Monday, March 21 at around 4.30pm but he only reported the attack to cops on Tuesday, April 19.

He was walking along the North Lanarkshire town’s Laurel Drive with a friend when he was attacked by a group of youths. Police say the attack was unprovoked and left the victim with a serious facial injury. The motive for the assault is not known.

Detective Inspector Kenny Dalrymple said: “This cowardly, unprovoked attack happened near to a local Spar shop and we know the young boy and his friend had been in the shop before he was assaulted.

"I am appealing to local people to contact us, perhaps you too had been in the shop, did you notice a group of youths hanging about? Do you know who they are?

“It’s clear these youths were intent on causing trouble and unfortunately a young 15 year-old boy was their target.

"Anyone could have been targeted by this group, if you have any information or knowledge about the incident or those involved, then please do contact us. Your information could be vital in our investigation.”

The group of youths, possibly six, were male, white with local accents and were aged between 15 to 17 years of age.

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Wishaw Police Office on 101.
