A video showing a dad from Blantyre arguing about boyfriends with his strong-willed four-year-old daughter has gone viral.

The hilarious video has been viewed by thousands on Facebook and Twitter and shows John Tierny telling his wee girl: "I'm no letting you get a boyfriend".

His defiant four-year-old daughter, Grace, replies: "Daddy, I'll get a boyfriend if I want to get a boyfriend".

"Daddy will break his legs" was his response, to which Grace shouts "NO" from the back of the car.

In full strict dad mode, he then goes on to say he will break her boyfriends legs and hold his dad hostage in a cupboard.

Grace is having none of it and explains to her dad: "Listen, I want a boyfriend, I'm getting a boyfriend".

"You're going to be a nun, you're going to work for Jesus", he says.

Speaking to the Evening Times, Mr Tierney said: "That's Grace at her best, she's a very inquisitive wee girl and she's constantly asking questions.

"This whole video came about because she waved to two wee boys going past on their scooters and I told her not to wave at boys because they're smelly."

The video has become very popular on social media, and Scottish comedian Limmy even tweeted John, writing: "funny as f***".

Mr Tierney is a big fan of the Glasgow funny man and said "Limmy tweeting me was high high praise indeed. I was very humbled by it".

Grace, who is four-years-old, has her fifth birthday coming up soon.

According to her dad, she is expecting big things for her frozen themed birthday party.

He said: "Grace keeps asking for things for her frozen party, not sure how I'm going to make it snow in the middle of may for her, but it's Scotland so it might just happen anyway".
