A POLICE training exercise brought part of Glasgow city centre to a standstill - and caused a stir on social media.
Scores of people took to Twitter to ask what was happening on Trongate with at least 10 police vans spotted screeching to a halt at the junction with Argyle Street shortly after 2pm.
Human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar was amongst them, asking his followers "Any1 know what the hell is happening at the Trongate. About 10 police cars and vans."
Others posted photos and said there were "police everywhere."
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed it was a training exercise.
No warning of the exercise was given and it comes after residents living near Braehead spoke of their confusion after a terror training exercise took place there in January.
The Braehead indoor complex was the scene for a training exercise to test the response of the emergency services to a Paris-style major firearms attack.
But the incident left some members of the public confused and they took to Twitter to air their concern about the noise.
Most people only became aware of what what going on after police shared a message about it on social media.
