A BIRTHDAY party to celebrate Paige Doherty's sweet sixteen will be held today.

Friends of the teenager have been organising the event to celebrate the milestone birthday which was this month.

Jayne Crawford, who is one of the organiser's of the event, made an appeal on Facebook for caterers to supply food for around 200 people.

Paige's mum Pamela Munro told people on Facebook the party would take place today.

She also shared a conversation she had with her teenager over birthday plans back in 2013.

The 32-year-old said she would start saving straight away to give her daughter the best sweet sixteen.

One Facebook user Debbie Lafferty said: "Heartbreaking, so unfair but I'm sure she'll be partying away with you all."

The heartbroken mum previously spoke of how she should be organising her daughter's sweet sixteen - instead of her funeral.

She said: "Should be planning a 16th birthday for Paige and instead we're sitting here planning a funeral. Life is cruel."

Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Margaret's Church in Clydebank last week to say their final farewell to Paige.

They celebrated the teenager's life by wearing bright colours and T-shirts with the slogan Pout for Paige.

Paige had left a sleepover at a friend's home and was on her way to collect her wages from her part-time job as a hairdresser when she went missing on Saturday, March 19.

Her body was found 48 hours later in a wooded area just off Great Western Road in Clydebank.

A man charged with the murder of 15-year-old Paige recently made a second private appearance in court.

John Leathem, 31, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, made no plea or declaration during the full committal hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

He was remanded in custody after the hearing, which came less than a week after his initial appearance in the dock.
