The son of a woman who disappeared after she visited him in Essex has urged her to get in touch.

Paul Findlay made a plea for his mum Caron to contact him or his siblings Jennifer, William and Douglas.

The much-loved grandmother-of-four, who is from Motherwell, was returning from a trip to Essex where she was visiting Paul on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old called her son Douglas to say she would be on her way home to Motherwell when she arrived at Glasgow Central Station at around 6.15pm.

Glasgow Times:

She was last spotted on CCTV at the station but it is understood she may have travelled to Ayr.

Paul made an emotional plea to his mum, “If you need time out, if you need a rest that is fine.

“Let us know you are alright, just let somebody know. It doesn’t have to be me. It could be any one of my brothers or sisters.

He added: “Ultimately my mum is very dearly loved and naturally people are just worried about her.

“If she wants to let us know she is okay, she can go away as long as she wants if that is what she needs.”

Caron is around 5ft 4in and slim, with green eyes and auburn collar-length hair.

She has a tattoo on her arm which says "Zander" and she was wearing a navy coat, grey jogging trousers and black shoes when last seen.

She was travelling with a blue suitcase, a grey handbag and a canvas shopping bag with a photograph of one of her grandchildren printed on it.

She was spotted on CCTV at Glasgow Central on Tuesday but officers do not know where she went.

Glasgow Times:

Sergeant Allan Barnstaple, of Motherwell Police Office, said: “Our earlier appeal stated Caron was last seen at Glasgow Central Station, 6.15pm on Tuesday evening having previously contacted her family to say she had returned safely to Glasgow however she failed to return home to Motherwell and her family haven't seen her since.

“It has now been established that Caron boarded a train for Ayr at 7pm from Glasgow Central Station and was seen getting off the train at Ayr railway station around 7.55pm. I would ask anyone who has seen Caron in Ayr or the surrounding area to contact us. I would also urge Caron herself to contact police as we want to make sure that she is safe and well and the family are urging their mum or anyone who saw her to get in touch with police."
