EXTRA police patrols will be in Airdrie after the suspicious death of a man on a residential street.

The 43-year-old was discovered with serious injuries in Gibb Street, Chapelhall at around 5.40pm on Thursday, April 28.

Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death however police are treating the death as suspicious at this time.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and are placing extra patrols in the area.

Detective Inspector Mark Henderson of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: “I appeal to anyone who was in the area of Gibb Street at around 5.40pm last night and witnessed any kind of activity there to contact police as they may have information that could assist our enquiries.”

Chief Inspector Gavin Russell, Area Commander for Monklands, added: “I’d like to reassure members of the Chapelhall community that there will be additional police patrols in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak with these officers, either in providing information that could assist with the investigation or to answer any concerns they may have.”

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
