Former Saturday Kitchen host James Martin made his debut as a guest host on This Morning – but it seems too many chefs may spoil the broth.
James helped fellow chef Phil Vickery answer viewers’ questions, instructing them how to chop mushrooms, make carbonara and keep Yorkshire puddings fluffy, before resident chef Phil demonstrated how to make a spatchcock roast chicken.
This is what Friday's show looks like! 👍 @jamesmartinchef @RuthieeL #ThisMorning pic.twitter.com/oO4yTs5Dx2

But many viewers thought there was some rivalry in the kitchen.
Too many cooks lol @itvthismorning 😂 love @jamesmartinchef on today's show 💙🍝

— Stuart Smart (@stuartsmart88) April 29, 2016
James Martin and Phil Vickery definitely have some rivalry going on! @itvthismorning

Feeling some definite tension between James Martin and the usual chef, Phil, on This Morning
— Claudia Laverack (@ClaudiaLaverack) April 29, 2016
The pair have worked together before on Ready Steady Cook, with James saying: “This is really weird, it’s the first time we’ve actually worked together for about 12 years.”

But others enjoyed the competitive cookery.
Watching Phil Vickery v James Martin on #ThisMorning is uncomfortable. I'm hooked. #KitchenSOS

It wasn’t the only part of the programme where James had to step back and watch – and viewers caught him with a shocked expression on his face when he met a man who cooks using his car engine.
Who's got the #BBQ blues? #carbecue uses the heat from car engines to cook food on the move #genius #stockingfiller pic.twitter.com/kDWwYZ3yXm
— Carbecue Cookbook (@carbecuebook) November 18, 2014
The “carbecue” concept involves wrapping up your dinner and putting it under the bonnet while you drive, but as he was handed a carbecued camembert, James looked as though he would rather stick to traditional cooking.
The guy on This Morning said you could cook fish on a car engine and James Martin’s face was shock, confusion and anger. Excellent.

#carbecue loved @jamesmartinchef face when they suggested the fish option!!!

One viewer worried about the roadside call-outs:
@itvthismorning I think the RAC is going to get some strange calls #Carbecue
— helenthomas (@maeday05) April 29, 2016
Phillip Schofield was more convinced:
I love the #Carbecue idea!!! Definitely going to try that 😊🚙🍤 @itvthismorning
— Phillip Schofield (@Schofe) April 29, 2016
Saturday Kitchen fans were delighted to see James back on TV, after he quit the morning cookery show a few weeks ago.
@jamesmartinchef @itvthismorning yaaaaay my favourite chef is back 😊😊😊

— Ali (@alidaly40) April 29, 2016
I'm stressed over James Martin being on This Morning. He's just not cut out for it.
— ThatGed (@ThatGed) April 29, 2016
But viewers felt it was an impressive debut:
#ThisMorning I think that @jamesmartinchef is doing a cracking job, first day on the job, out of his comfort zone but rocking it anyway.
