THE coastguard rescued a yacht which broke down Tuesday night.

The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly after 8pm to reports of a yacht in difficulty around one mile from Ardrossan Harbour.

RNLI Troon responded to the emergency and got to the scene.

They successfully took the yacht under two and proceeded into Ardrossan Harbour.

The Adrossan team meanwhile observed from the shoreline while the rescue was taking place.

Once within the outer harbour, the Adrossan team assisted both the lifeboat and the casualty vessel to come alongside, and the lifeboat to recover its tow rope.

A local boat from Clyde Marina also assisted the casualty vessel into their berth within the marina with the team attending on the pontoon to assist.

A spokesman for the Adrossan Coastguard Rescue Team said: “With the casualty vessel alongside and all persons safe and well, the team have returned to station to complete the necessary paperwork before booking off duty and returning home remaining on call for the next callout.

“The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team regularly works alongside our RNLI colleagues from Troon with both teams being made up entirely of volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to those in need.”

In a coastal, beach or cliff emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
