GLASGOW is set to sizzle next week with temperatures topping Madrid.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures could reach 20C on Sunday and Monday, dropping to around 17C or 18C for the rest of the week. It is due to be dry and sunny with some cloud.

The Met Office says Saturday could see some rain but Sunday and Monday “look dry, very warm and sunny.”

The temperatures beat those in Madrid, which is due to reach 15C to 17C for the start of next week with some rain.

In the UK, temperatures reached 20-21C (68-70F) yesterday afternoon, making it the warmest day of the year so far.

As winds will be mainly east to south-easterly, temperatures are expected to continue to climb over the coming days, reaching up to 25C (77F) in the south east of England by Sunday and Monday. Many western areas could see a few showers over the weekend, some potentially heavy with the risk of thunder.

Later next week temperatures will moderate slightly, but staying above average for this time of year.

Low pressure to the south of the UK may try and push northwards bringing some showery rain into southern areas at times next week.

However, northern parts of the UK look to stay drier and more settled with the best of the sunshine potentially in the west away from the cloudy east coast.
